The most basic and cheapest model. A simple rubber bulb that is squeezed before being inserted into the nostril and then released to suction. Less effective than the previous two because the suction power is limited and difficult to control. Suitable for light secretions.

Instill physiological saline (0.9% saline solution) into each nostril before suctioning. The saline thins thick secretions, making them easier to suction out. Use single-dose, disposable vials to prevent contamination between sessions.
Lay baby on their back or hold them in a semi-reclined position. Slightly tilt the baby's head to the side of the nostril to be treated.
Gently insert the tip into the nostril — not too deep, just at the entrance. Aspirate with a gentle, continuous motion. Switch nostrils. Never force it if baby strongly resists.
After each use, take apart and clean all parts in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Allow to air dry. Sterilise regularly (steam or boiling for compatible parts).
In case of a cold: 2 to 4 times a day, particularly before feeds/bottles and before bedtime. A clean nose makes sucking easier and improves sleep quality. Do not exceed 4 sessions a day to avoid irritating the mucous membranes.

Selection criteria in practice: prefer models whose parts dismantle completely for cleaning — non-cleanable areas accumulate bacteria. Check the availability of spare parts (tips, filters) — a nasal aspirator with no spare parts available will be thrown away at the first sign of wear. For the electric version, USB recharging is much more practical than AA batteries. The manufacturer's warranty is a good indicator of confidence — 2 years minimum for a health product.
An infant can catch up to 6 to 8 colds a year — this is completely normal and even beneficial for the maturation of the immune system. Most colds do not require any medication — saline solution, a nasal aspirator and patience are enough. Antibiotics are useless against viruses — do not ask for them for a simple cold. The normal duration of a cold in a baby: 7 to 10 days. If symptoms persist beyond that, consult a doctor.
