Create a soothing and functional nursery

A baby’s room is much more than just a room to decorate: it’s a cosy haven where your baby will spend 14 to 18 hours a day during their first few months. A place for sleeping, cuddles and their first games. At PetitMaxou, we bring together all the essentials to create a gentle, safe and stylish space — from the cot to accessories, including night lights and wall decorations.

The essentials for setting up the baby's nursery

A well-thought-out layout relies on a few key pieces. The cot first, chosen with a firm mattress suited to safety standards — it is the heart of the room. The bedding accessories followed by: braided cot bumpers for safety and comfort, soft blankets, sleeping bags. For more peaceful nights, a personalised night light the baby's first name creates a reassuring atmosphere that accompanies falling asleep.

There wall decoration also plays a key role in the atmosphere: our illustrated prints and customisable posters bring softness without overcrowding the space. For a versatile bedroom that will grow with the child, opt for whimsical patterns and soft colours rather than cartoon characters that will quickly go out of style.

Safety and material selection

In the bedroom, safety comes first. All our products comply with CE standards and are selected for their absence of harmful substances: no toxic paints on the furniture, no phthalates in textile accessories. Cot bars must comply with regulatory spacing (between 45 and 65 mm), and the mattress must fit the bed base perfectly.

When it comes to materials, choose solid wood for furniture, organic cotton for bed linen, and OEKO-TEX certified textiles for anything that comes into contact with baby's skin.

Cosy home decor: our tips

For a bedroom that is both soothing and stimulating, follow a few simple principles. Neutral and pastel colours on the walls (beige, sage, soft terracotta), complemented by a few colourful touches through bed linen and posters. Dimmable lighting. Natural materials — cotton, linen, wood, wool. And always plenty of closed storage to keep the space calm.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can you use a night light? From birth, provided that it emits a very soft light (yellow/amber rather than white or blue) and is placed away from the bed.

Is the cot bumper recommended? It is a subject of debate. It protects baby from bumps, but can present a risk of suffocation for very young infants. Opt for thin braided cot bumpers and remove them as soon as baby starts moving around.

What is the ideal temperature in a baby's bedroom? 18 to 20°C. Warmer hinders sleep and increases the risk of night-time overheating.
